Dosage
Unfold trip kits do not require psychedelics or any other substances in order to be enjoyed, and kits do not include any drugs. That being said, we enjoy pairing some of the activities in our kits with psychedelics, just as some may enjoy pairing a meal with wine, and find that psychedelics can help unlock joy, exploration, growth, and connection.
What you choose to ingest is your decision, but we want to provide responsible information about these pairings. Everyone reacts differently to substances and dosages so it’s important to take an individual approach, considering medications, allergies, pre-existing conditions, and past experiences. We encourage everyone to do their own research, for both health and legality purposes, and have provided best practices and resources to explore.
Remember to reagent test your substances to ensure they are what you expect them to be and are unadulterated. These are affordable, legal, simple, and easily found online — we highly recommend Bunk Police. Unfold may earn an affiliate commission from this link. We’ve chosen Bunk Police because we support the work they do in the harm reduction movement, and we’re long-time customers who can vouch for their excellent test kits and resources.
One source for dosage guidance is the PsychonautWiki substance index, which lists dosage ranges for each of the categories below for a wide range of substances.
The strength of pairings can be described as either Microdose, Light, Common, or Strong:
Microdose
A microdose is usually considered to be a "sub-perceptual dose", producing no detectable psychoactive effects or intoxication, but subtly altering one's state of mind and abilities.
Others consider a microdose to be the dose at which the mental and physical alterations produced by the substance first become apparent. This is also called a "threshold dose". Subjects may perceive a vague sense of "something" or anticipatory energy building up in the background, and some notice enhancements to mood, creativity, motivation, energy, and other changes.
Light
A light dose produces a state which is distinct from sobriety but does not threaten to override ordinary awareness.
The effects can be ignored by increasing the focus one directs towards the external environment and performing complex tasks.
An equivalent light dose of alcohol is roughly 1–2 drinks for someone with low tolerance.
Common
A common dose, or full dose, is the dose at which the effects and nature of the substance are clear and distinct; ordinary awareness slips and ignoring the substance’s presence becomes difficult.
One will generally be able to partake in regular behaviors and remain functional and able to communicate, although this can depend on the individual.
The effects can be allowed to occupy a predominant role or they may be suppressed and made secondary to other chosen activities with sufficient effort or in case of an emergency.
An equivalent common dose of alcohol is roughly 2–3 drinks for someone with low tolerance.
Strong
A strong dose renders one mostly incapable of functioning and interacting normally, or thinking in a straightforward manner.
The effects of the substance are clear and can no longer be ignored or suppressed, leaving one entirely engaged in the experience regardless of their desire or volition. Negative effects become more common at this level.
As one is not able to alter the trajectory of their behavior at strong doses, it is vital to have prepared one’s environment and activities in advance.
An equivalent strong dose of alcohol is roughly 3–5 drinks for someone with low tolerance.
